WHO WE ARE.

“There is a community of more than our bodies when bread is broken and wine drunk.” — M.F.K. Fisher

Edible Marin & Wine Country tells the stories of the extraordinary farmers, ranchers, cheesemakers, fisherfolk, bakers, brewers, winemakers, chefs and other food and drink artisans in Marin, Napa and Sonoma counties.  We are a quarterly print magazine, distributed throughout Marin, Napa and Sonoma Counties, as well as in select locations in San Francisco.  We are also available online, and on our free apps for every platform.

Our mission is to serve as a key link connecting local food and drink producers with the chefs, retailers and consumers in our area.  We do this through bringing you compelling and heart warming stories, gorgeous photos and delicious recipes.  But we don’t shy away from tough topics like farmworker rights, food justice, GMOs and foie gras, either.  The best part is, you can read about these special folks, then go see them for yourselves, at local farmers’ markets, ranches, farms and restaurants.  Right here in our own backyard.

IN THE PRESS.

What they are saying about Edible Communities:

“I call what you are doing ‘The Edible Phenomenon’—you’ve accomplished something that most publishers have not done. The concept and the publications are fantastic.”
—Margo True, former Managing Editor, Saveur magazine (now Food Editor for Sunset)

“[Edible Communities publications] have become the unofficial literary journals of the farmer-writer movement.”
The New York Times

“Your publications always leave me with a good feeling. One can easily recognize they are in the hands of a talented team of writers and designers as well as a caring publisher.”
—John Thorne, publisher, Simple Cooking

MEET THE PUBLISHER.
Lisa Atwood

A Marin native and 17-year resident of Sonoma, Lisa has never had to look very far for culinary inspiration. She spent much of her professional life in cookbook editorial as a publisher, editor and author. Lisa has also worked extensively in digital content creation, producing culinary and product videos, the Taste blog and content-rich website pages for Williams Sonoma, as well as her own garden-to-table food blog. The daughter of a Sacramento Valley rice farmer, mom of three and avid gardener, seasonal cooking with local ingredients has been a lifetime theme.

Gibson Thomas, founder of Edible Marin & Wine Country

MEET THE FOUNDER.
Gibson Thomas

Gibson grew up in the South where she learned to cook, revere those who produce our food, and the joy that comes from feeding others. A “reformed” business attorney, Gibson was the leader of the Marin County (CA) convivium of Slow Food for eight years before she founded Edible Marin & Wine Country magazine.  She feels blessed to be living and raising her son in Northern California where they are surrounded by so many extraordinary farmers, ranchers, cheesemakers, brewers, distillers, winemakers and other good food and drink artisans, and world-class chefs, retailers and discerning consumers who appreciate and support them.
