Knife Skills: From Beginner to Master

Join us in the Teaching Kitchen at Under-Study for an immersive knife skills experience featuring Harold Arimoto, President of MAC Knives. This hands-on workshop is designed to build your confidence and refine your technique in a guided, engaging environment.

Each attendee will learn and practice essential knife skills while creating several simple Mukimono designs, the Japanese art of decorative garnishing, including a zucchini flowerette, apple leaf, carrot butterfly, and more. With over 43 years of experience, Harold Arimoto has traveled across the United States demonstrating expert knife techniques and sharing the traditions of Mukimono, offering a rare opportunity to learn from a true master.

Participants will also have the opportunity to purchase MAC knives at substantial savings, making it easy to continue honing their skills at home.

In this workshop, you will:
Learn how to properly hold and handle a chef’s knife with confidence
Develop foundational knife skills for precision and efficiency
Create a zucchini flowerette, apple leaf, carrot butterfly, and apple bird using traditional Mukimono techniques
