Watermelon Mash

Servings 1 Serving(s)

Ingredients

  • Start with any fruit with a leak-proof rind or shell, like a melon (watermelon, honeydew or cantaloupe, or others that might be local to your area) or a pineapple

Optional Additions

  • Cucumber slices
  • Strawberry slices
  • Squeeze of lime or lemon for acidity that will add a hint of tartness to the milder melons
  • Fresh mint sprigs
  • Borage or other edible flowers
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  • Wash and dry the fruit you are going to use as your drinking vessel.
Cut the fruit roughly in half, lengthwise. If you are using a round melon, also cut a very, very thin slice off the bottom. This will allow it to stand upright.
Using a strong spoon, scrape out all the flesh from the fruit or fruits. You may also need to use a knife to loosen the flesh if you are using a pineapple.
Place the flesh into a bowl and, using a potato masher or stick blender, mash up the fruit until it has the consistency of a thick, chunky liquid.
Pour the mash back into the reserved rind or shell. Add small mint leaves, a sprinkle of edible flowers and a few ice cubes.
    Enjoy!
