Ingredients
- 2 parts Gray Whale gin
- 1 egg white
- ½ part lemon juice
- ¾ part orgeat
- ½ part Golden Poppy Syrup [see recipe here]
- 4 dashes orange blossom water
- Poppy petals, for garnish
For the Golden Poppy Syrup
- 1 cup red poppy petals (cut the black spots at the base with a scissor)
- ¾ cups sugar
- 3 cups water
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)
Preparation
Add the poppy petals, sugar, water, lemon juice and ginger, if using, to a small saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved and the syrup has come to a simmer. Cook for 2 more minutes, then remove from the heat and allow to steep for 10 minutes. Strain the poppy petals and ginger out of the syrup and place in the refrigerator to chill before using. Store refrigerated in an airtight container.
Combine all ingredients except ice into a shaker and shake. Add ice to the shaker and give it another shake. Double strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with poppy petals.
