GIFTS THAT KEEP GIVING
There are many wonderful nonprofit organizations working hard to support our local communities in the areas of agricultural education, environmental protection and sustenance. Making the gift of a donation in your own name or the name or memory of a loved one is a wonderful way to join with their efforts this season. Here are just a few excellent options.

Agricultural Institute of Marin (AIM)  agriculturalinstitute.org
AIM serves 400+ farmers, food providers and artisans across 40 California counties and nine certified farmers’ markets throughout the Bay Area. They offer agricultural education and support to farmers and mobile produce markets for older adults and underserved communities. AIM’s mission is to educate, inspire and connect communities to responsible farmers and producers, all to promote a robust and equitable regional food system.

Farm to Pantry - farmtopantry.org
Farm to Pantry turns good food that would otherwise go to waste into food boxes for those in need within Sonoma County by partnering with local farms and volunteers. They gather surplus food and produce, thus reducing waste and providing meals for the food insecure, all while supporting struggling farmers. Their mission is to promote a regenerative future in the food supply chain by paying marginalized Sonoma County farmers to grow food for those within the community facing economic hardship.

MALT - malt.org
Marin Agricultural Land Trust, known by most as MALT, is dedicated to safeguarding Marin’s farmland and promoting a prosperous agricultural community. They prioritize conserving vital agricultural land for economic stability and preserving wildlife habitat. Their efforts benefit West Marin’s family-owned farms, local food systems and Marin’s continued ecological health.

Ceres Community Project: ceresproject.org
Serving Marin and Sonoma, the Ceres Community Project engages teen volunteers to prepare and deliver 100% locally sourced organic meals medically tailored to the needs of individuals too unwell to shop or cook. Through the mentorship program, teens learn to provide vital nutrition to those coping with severe illnesses, in the process gaining gardening and cooking skills and fostering the importance of giving back to those in their community.

Community Soil: communitysoil.org
Community Soil Foundation is committed to promoting regenerative farming and gardening practices for the well-being of the Sonoma County communities. The initiatives include year-round organic garden-based education, teaching sustainable gardening and habitat restoration, and fostering community stewardship.

COMMUNITY-SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE
The community-supported agriculture (CSA) harvest subscription model establishes a direct and transparent connection between local farmers and consumers. Farmers provide shares of their harvest to the public, who receive boxes of fresh vegetables, fruits, poultry, eggs and meats in exchange for prepaid seasonal subscriptions. This arrangement embodies the “support” in community-supported agriculture.
