After Healdsburg resident Claudia Sutton and her life partner, John Stave, purchased an Airstream in 2019, she went in search of books to help her transform her well-honed campfire-cooking skills to her new mobile kitchen, but came up short.

“I had spent 30 years in ‘tent camping life’ preparing gourmet meals over camp stoves and campfires—imagine my surprise when I discovered that doing so was the exception, not the rule. I had ‘graduated’ to this beautiful Airstream kitchen only to find I had little to no guidance on how to make the most of it.” So Sutton authored her own.

Published in the fall of 2020 and now in its third printing, A Moveable Feast: Recipes for Rolling Kitchens includes tips and tools for food prep, a guide to stocking your RV’s pantry and over 100 recipes including many make-ahead meals that take campers from breakfast to dinner. Sutton’s second cookbook, Campfire Cocktail Hour: Appetizer and Drink Recipes for Airstream & RVers, was published in April 2022. As its name implies, the self-illustrated cookbook focuses heavily on the social side of RV life, with tips on stocking your RV bar in addition to 120 appetizer and drink recipes.

Extremely easy to prepare, you can pair them with a multitude of hot or cold toppings. I make a large batch and store them in an airtight container where they will keep fresh and crisp for at least a week.
