Sarah Anderson is the founder of Chateau Sonoma and 5th Street Farm, two beloved Sonoma destinations inspired by her love of French culture, timeless design, and meaningful community. For over 25 years, Chateau Sonoma’s French Flea Market has drawn devoted fans, while seasonal gatherings like the Fête de Tomate, Champagne Club pickup parties, and Mother’s Day Floral Workshops bring people together to celebrate the good life. Sarah supports local makers—from beekeepers and florists to ceramicists and small-batch artisans—and regularly partners with nonprofits to uplift the creative community.

Valley Bar + Bottle is my go-to for thoughtful, seasonal food. I also love Golden Bear Station just north of town. Their wood-fired cooking is incredible— especially the mushroom dish with egg. Glen Ellen Star is another favorite for their ever-evolving, creative menu.
For breakfast, I brew Woodshop Coffee at home (we sell it at the shop), but if I go out, it’s Baker & Cook. My son Tyge and I agree—Jen (Demarest “The Baker”) makes the perfect croissant. Les Pascals in Glen Ellen is also a treat for pastries, Croque Monsieur, and French classics. For a lovely sit-down spot, I love Layla at MacArthur Place.

stay
For something affordable and central, the Hilton Sonoma Valley Inn is a great choice—clean and right off the square. For more of a splurge, MacArthur Place offers impeccable service, a spa, and cozy farmhouse charm.

Scribe Winery is a dream. You’re welcomed into a hacienda with a glass of rosé and treated to small plates and views of the valley. Donum Estate is a hidden gem with a world-class outdoor art collection And, as we’re having our olives pressed by Goldridge Organic Farms in Sebastopol this year, we’ve loved going out to their beautiful facility in Sebastopol for tastings.

I’m the cocktail queen. Every Friday at 5:30, I host an Instagram Live Cocktail Hour from home, chatting with locals and mixing something seasonal. When I go out, I head to Farm at Carneros. It’s lively and welcoming, with live music, great cocktails, and both indoor and patio seating. I’m a margarita girl, but their Sidecar is also spot-on. Sonoma has it all: gardens, chefs, makers, and magic. I feel lucky to call it home.
